Pat Montgomery has been with HomeSight for 19 years and counting! Before she settled into coaching first-time homebuyers, she worked in different departments within the organization—including outreach and lending—giving her a comprehensive understanding of the entire home buying process. This range of experiences has made her a more effective Homebuyer Specialist.
When Pat began her career at HomeSight, purchase assistance customers could only purchase homes developed by HomeSight. Over the years this has changed, and first-time homebuyers can now purchase HomeSight-developed homes as well as existing homes in King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties. Along with the evolution of HomeSight, she has witnessed many changes in the market over time.
While the few years since the economic downturn were hard, Pat says the number of potential homebuyers coming to HomeSight has increased in the past year as the economy has improved. But she worries that rising home prices are putting affordable homeownership out of reach for many, noting that, “The biggest hurdle facing today’s HomeSight customers is finding a house in their price range. They fit the criteria and are approved for lending but sometimes can’t find anything affordable.” HomeSight’s purchase assistance loan model is one tool that helps buyers close affordability gaps and buy their first homes, and we continue to pursue other solutions.
If you are looking for your first home in this tight market, Pat is a fantastic resource. She has helped hundreds of families become homeowners over the years, like Mr Rey. As a single dad, he wanted the stable foundation of a home to raise his son. He had solid income and savings, with enough to help his aging mother, but was challenged by a few collections that hurt his credit. With Pat’s assistance he developed a sustainable budget and an action plan to restore his credit. In 2013, after 18 months, he had rebuilt his credit and bought a home to share with his son.
Stories like this one motivate Pat to work hard with her customers. She loves “helping people become homeowners and making their dreams come true. It’s a good feeling when I help a member of the community become a homeowner and help them lay roots down in the communities HomeSight serves.” Pat is well known and loved throughout Southeast Seattle and often runs into families she’s helped over the years while shopping or running errands in her neighborhood. And those interactions remind her that she is making a real difference to these families.
We celebrate and thank Pat for her dedication and passion over the last 19 years, and are proud to have her leading our customers to homeownership.
