HomeSight has cancelled all in-person Homebuyer Education Classes for the time being. The health and safety of our community members is our top priority during this time.
We are currently offering two different safe distance-learning options for completing Homebuyer Education and obtaining your Certificate of Completion. Please see descriptions for each course below, and feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about which course may be best for you.
Online Course Options

Live Interactive Homebuyer Education via Zoom: This is a live three-part class series taught online via Zoom Meetings. These courses take place over three session – typically two weekday evenings, and one weekend morning. All three sessions must be attended in order to complete the course and earn your Certificate of Completion. These classes are interactive and provide time to ask questions and learn from an experienced instructor. Anyone may register to attend. Due to the amount of material covered in this class, HomeSight requires that prospective home buyers join our Zoom classes on time and for the duration of the call. We currently are unable to offer language translation services for these classes.
Cost to attend: FREE
eHome America Self-Guided Homebuyer Education: This is a web-based self-guided course and best for those who need to learn on their own schedule. You will be issued a Certificate of Completion once you have finished. This course is also available in Spanish. We have a limited number of reduced fee coupon codes available for those needing additional assistance. Please reach out to us for a code.
Cost to attend: $50
All clients receiving purchase assistance through HomeSight, including all persons who will appear on the mortgage, are required to complete our educational curriculum and financial assessments.
Homebuyer Education Course Description
The Basics of Homeownership: Credit, Finance, Home Selection, Escrow and Closing
In addition to providing an overview of the homebuying process, HomeSight’s purchase assistance program, buyer affordability and qualifying criteria, our Homebuyer Education course covers important first-time homebuyer topics as listed below:
- Financial Basics: Increases financial awareness in order to make sound financial decisions, particularly regarding the home purchase process. Topics include: housing affordability, developing a budget, budgeting and saving tips, understanding credit and how to protect your credit.
- Home Financing: Increases familiarity with various lending programs as well as the legal documents of the home purchase process. Topics include: different types of mortgage loans, qualifying for a home loan, legal document review (purchase and sale agreements, notes, deeds of trust, and title reports), home loan closing process (settlement procedures, predatory loans, and how to avoid them).
- Home Maintenance: Provides valuable information regarding the maintenance responsibilities of home ownership. Topics include: home inspections as a maintenance guide, an overview of the systems that make up your home, handling home emergencies, preserving the long-term value of your home, seasonal maintenance tips, and maintenance resources for the new home owner.
- Mortgage Default Prevention: Learn what to do if you lose your job or some other catastrophic event keeps you from making your mortgage payments. Become familiar with programs available that can help you avoid foreclosure.
